Three Peppers by woodythrower Three Peppers by woodythrower
My wife recently bought me three brilliantly colored peppers, so I took a few pictures of them, loaded one of the photos into openCanvas, then painted over it and removed the original image layer. It started as an experiment and an excercise in light/shadow, which is why the composition is a little odd (stems hanging off the top), but then I finished it anyway.

Having the original image loaded into openCanvas made it easy to block in the shapes and match colors, but it seems a little like cheating, and overall it was less convenient than having a reference photo off to the side.

If there had been difficult shapes or proportions, maybe it would have been more useful to paint over the photo. I may try using that approach for a portrait.
